Pressure Builds on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

Will Android become the mobile gaming platform of the future? According to the marketing director of Sony Ericsson this is likely to be the case. He believes that not only will the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play mobile phone be the device of the year allowing gamers to play games using a proper gaming interface on their phones, but its launch will herald a bold change for the Android operating system and that the development effort put in by Sony Ericsson, Google and their partners will add to it an overall capability as a gaming platform.

But as the launch date grows near the pressure builds. Market research suggests that there is an eager audience out there ready to snap up the Play in its millions but there is also a huge amount of investment that has been made. If the play turned out to be a donkey then there is little doubt that several heads would roll.

Despite the pressure it seems that there is little to be worried about. The Xperia Play uses the latest processor, the best operating system out there (Android Gingerbread) and has by far the best gaming interface since the PSP portable. It has an amazing super AMOLED screen with brilliant colour rendition, fast moving graphics which has been claimed to be able to render 90 million triangles per second (though that might be a little optimistic) and a superb selection of games, some of which will be pre-loaded. Altogether at launch there will be 50 games available though many more are in the pipeline and will be released over the coming months.

So seriously are the games developers taking the Xperia Play that some games currently in development will be launched for it prior to being launched for the Xbox; now that really is an act of belief. Many games will be multiplayer using the Wi-Fi connectivity of the Play which is another big plus.

With nothing in the market place that comes anywhere close to the Sony Ericsson Play its success seems to be more or less guaranteed. For more infomation visit dialaphone.co.uk
